Nevine El-Aref, , Sunday 22 Nov 2015
A gala ceremony has been
organised for Sunday night at the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir square to
celebrate the appointment of renowned Egyptian actress Laila Eloui as
the #Unite4Heritage envoy
The Egyptian Museum in Tahrir is to celebrate on Sunday night the
appointment of Egyptian renowned actress Laila Eloui as the
#Unite4Heritage envoy.
Eloui is the first envoy for the campaign that was launched early
this year by UNESCO director Irina Bokova in Baghdad, Iraq and that was
re-launched in May at the Museum of Islamic Art in Cairo, Egypt.
The #Unite4Heritage campaign aims to use the power of social
networks to create a global movement with young people for them to raise
their voice and take action to safeguard heritage under threat and to
provide a counter-narrative to sectarian propaganda in Arab countries
and elsewhere.
The celebration is being organised by UNESCO's Cairo office, in
collaboration with the Ministry of Antiquities and the Egyptian National
Commission for UNESCO.
