THE SUDAN ARCHAEOLOGICAL RESEARCH SOCIETY

Dear Members, colleagues and friends

Following on from the Society's archaeological activities at the Fourth Nile Cataract, a part of the Merowe Dam Archaeological Salvage Project, a team working in collaboration with Alfredo and Angelo Castiglioni, Iveco and New Holland rescued pieces of rock art, rock gongs and a granite pyramid from the Society's concession. A small amount of this material was donated to the British Musuem. Amongst it were two rock gongs which are displayed in the Sudan, Egypt and Nubia gallery. Please visit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rq0DjwSZzkc to watch a video of these gongs being played by a 'rock' musician, Liam Williamson, along with an interview with Dr Cornelia Kleinitz who studied this material as a member of the Society's field team.

An important addition to the Society's website are the 11 issues of the Newsletter of the Society published between 1991 and 1996 which can be accessed via http://www.sudarchrs.org.uk/resources/publications/

Also of interest is the new Naga guide available online which can be downloaded as a free PDF at
