Egypt Celebrates UNSC Candidacy With Gala Dinner in New York
The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Permanent Mission of Egypt to the United Nations hosted a gala in honor of Egypt’s candidacy for a non-permanent seat in the 2016-2017 United Nations Security Council.
The gala, which took place last night at the Metropolitan Museum’s Temple of Dendur, included performances by stars from the musical Akhenaten, directed by Egyptian native Hisham Abdel Khalek.
Akhenaten is a musical set in Ancient
Egypt that revolves around the pharaoh Akhenaten, his wife Nefertiti and
their son King Tut.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry attended the gala alongside members of other UN delegations.
Shoukry traveled to New York City on
Monday to promote Egypt’s candidacy for the Africa Group seat in the
Council, which Senegal is also vying for.
The vote is due to take place on Thursday.
