Arizona Science Center to transform into giant mummy vault Wednesday
PHOENIX — The Mummies of the World exhibition has been on display for over a month, but the Arizona Science Center is taking the attraction one step further Wednesday.
Local company Walter Productions will use 3D mapping, steam jets and sound effects to transform the building's exterior into a seven-story antique vault in an event called The Great Reveal, according to a press release.
The production company worked with the science center last year for its Great Eruption event, and this year's display will be twice as big.
Anyone can view the display shows at 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. for free from Heritage and Science Park.
The science center will be open for extended hours from 5-10 p.m., featuring mummy-themed activities.
General admission is $18 for adults and $13 for children, while additional tickets to the Mummies of the World exhibit cost $12 for adults and $10 for children.
The 40 mummies in the exhibit arrived at the science center with a police escort in January.
The human and animal mummies plus 85 rare artifacts will be on display until Sept. 2.
The exhibition, which is the largest collection of mummies ever assembled, came from Budapest, Hungary.
It includes materials from civilizations in Europe, South America and ancient Egypt spanning 4,500 years.
