The ministry decided to delay the outage after facing a backlash from citizens
Egypt's Ministry of Electricity decided to delay implementing its decision to cut off power in several Upper Egypt cities until the end of Eid Al-Adha, the ministry announced on Monday.
The ministry had announced Sunday that a 22-hour power outage would take place in several cities in the south of the country over four days. The scheduled outages are meant to allow for the undertaking of maintenance work and the linking of the North Giza power plant feeding those cities to the new unified power grid in Egypt.
According to the initial statement, the outage would be implemented in three periods per day during those four days.
Due to a significant backlash from citizens in the cities affected by the decision, the ministry decided to postpone the plan until after Eid Al-Adha, which will start in Egypt on Thursday.
Eid Al-Adha lasts four days in Egypt.
