CAIRO, July 17 (Xinhua) -- Starting from Monday, foreign tourists purchasing a "Cairo Pass" can visit all museums and archaeological sites in Cairo and Giza for five days without limited entry.

Egyptian Antiquities Ministry began on Monday selling the "Cairo Pass" permits to visitors. The cost of "Cairo Pass" is 80 U.S. dollars for foreign tourists and 40 dollars for foreign students, the state-run news agency MENA reported.

The total price for the tickets to all the museums and archaeological sites in Cairo and Giza governorates is about 147 dollars.

Foreigners holding the pass can visit all Egyptian, Islamic and Coptic archaeological sites and museums in Cairo and Giza for five days with limited entry, the report said.

The new permits aim at encouraging more tourists to visit museums and archaeological sites so to increase revenues from tourism, an Antiquities Ministry's official was quoted as saying.

The "Cairo Pass" can be purchased from several places, including the Antiquities Ministry, the Egyptian Museum and Cairo Citadel.

Egypt, a popular tourist destination, has been suffering from a decline in tourism revenues since the unrest in 2011. Its tourism industry took further blows from the repeated terror attacks in Egypt in recent years, especially the crash of a Russian passenger plane in October 2015, which killed 224 people onboard, shortly after taking off from the airport in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Sharm EL Sheikh. Terrorism was suspected to be behind the crash.

The revenues from tourism in Egypt declined to only 3.4 billion U.S. dollars in 2016, from 11 billion dollars in 2010.
