Mayo Abbey in collaboration with the Tochar Valley Rural Community Network will host an illustrated lecture , by Alf Monaghan, on the influence of the Ancient Egyptian Coptic Church on Early Irish Christianity.

Alf Monaghan,worked extensively in the Middle Eastern countries of Egypt, Syria, etc. He developed a deep interest in exploring the influence of the Coptic Church in Ireland, before St. Patrick arrived: most of which is now lost or forgotten.
This informal talk presents an interesting perspective on identifiable influences from the Mediterranean area along our western coastline, in particular.
Mayo Abbey's own illustrious past connects directly back to this Early Christian Era - where St. Colman and his followers kept the Christian Torch burning.
An entertaining, informative evening is assured.
