CAIRO – 14 February 2021: The countdown to the Solar Alignment Phenomenon at the Holy of Holies in the Ramses II Temple in Abu Simbel begins.
The Solar Alignment is a unique astronomical phenomenon that was created by the ancient Egyptians thousands of years ago inside the temples of Abu Simbel. It takes place twice every year on February 22 and October 22.
Director General of Aswan and Nubia Antiquities Abdel Moneim Saeed confirmed that with the approaching date of the "Solar Alignment Phenomenon", the Aswan and Nubia antiquities area is preparing to hold a special international music concert without an audience on the day of the special solar event. Further details will be announced after the completion of the necessary procedures.
Saeed said in press statements that the archaeological area continues to prepare for the Solar Alignment on the Holy of Holies in Abu Simbel, through the formation of a team of archaeologists and a restoration specialist, to do the necessary maintenance and restoration of the temple's façade, fixing the colors, conducting mechanical and chemical cleaning, and doing the rest of the periodic maintenance to preserve luster of the place.
That is in addition to increasing the "landscape" area, developing a lighting system inside and outside the temples, and maintaining straws inside the concrete dome to reduce the humidity and heat inside the two temples.
