Historic Treasures from King Tut's Tomb Arrive to U.S. for Upcoming Exhibition World Premiere at California Science Center
LOS ANGELES, March 7, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- More than 150 stunning treasures from King Tut's tomb have arrived from Cairo, Egypt at the California Science Center in Los Angeles, where they will now be installed for the world premiere of KING TUT: Treasures of the Golden Pharaoh, beginning March 24, 2018.
Presented by the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities, IMG and the California Science Center, guests at the new immersive exhibition will explore the story told by these priceless burial objects and learn what science has revealed about King Tut's life and death. The 10-city international exhibition tour commemorates the 100-year anniversary of the tomb's discovery and will be on view at the California Science Center from March 24, 2018 – January 6, 2019.
As the official logistics provider of KING TUT: Treasures of the Golden Pharaoh, FedEx utilized its global network and expertise of their dedicated team members to deliver the largest assembly of treasures from King Tut's tomb ever on display outside of Egypt. FedEx Custom Critical, a FedEx Trade Networks company that specializes in the delivery of critical shipments, developed a custom program that included a FedEx Express 777 flight for the 7,500-mile trip from Cairo to California, and FedEx Custom Critical trucks for the ground transport of the 31,200-pound shipment on arrival.
"FedEx Custom Critical has the experience and expertise required to transport sensitive shipments of all kinds, including irreplaceable artifacts like these," said FedEx Custom Critical President and CEO Virginia Addicott. "We are proud to deliver these artifacts so they can be seen and appreciated by people around the world."
The shipment travelled with an embedded security team, and an Egyptian courier will remain with the artifacts for the duration of their travel outside Egypt. FedEx Custom Critical trucks that transported the artifacts were equipped with the latest innovative technology, including SenseAware®, a solution that monitors the shipment's defined specifications, such as location, temperature, humidity and light exposure while in transit.
Exhibition guests will see dazzling antiquities that would have served the king in life and / or afterlife. The largest collection of King Tut's treasures ever to travel, forty percent are making their first journey abroad.
"Each artifact presented in KING TUT: Treasures of the Golden Pharaoh is important to the story of King Tut – helping us to learn how they were used in his daily life and in preparations for his journey to the afterlife. Especially notable is what the discovery of his tomb meant to the world of archaeology and the insights gained from the state-of-the-art technology and scientific analyses of King Tut's mummy and artifacts," said California Science Center President
Jeff Rudolph. "It is our honor to be the first institution to host the exhibition that will hopefully inspire people around the world to see the exhibition and visit the upcoming Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza to see more of these wonders of ancient Egypt."
KING TUT: Treasures of the Golden Pharaoh will be on view at the California Science Center in Los Angeles from March 24, 2018 – January 6, 2019 before moving to Europe. At the conclusion of the 10-city tour, the items will go on permanent display at the new Grand Egyptian Museum being constructed in Cairo.
