27 ancient Egyptian artefacts to be sold in US auction

Twenty-seven unique antiquities from ancient Egypt will be sold at auction in New York next month.

The globally renowned auction house Christie's will be hosting the auction on 18 April where some of the pieces are expected to sell for more than $1,000,000.

Amongst the pieces is a rare statue of the Sekhim-Ankh-Ptah who lived between 2389 and 2255 BC. A minister in the Pharaonic era, he was considered the supervisor of most of the property business at the time. This relic is expected to fetch between $1 million and $1.5 million.

Following the revolution which ousted long-term dictator Hosni Mubarak in 2011, museums were looted and ransacked with artefacts damaged or stolen, according to the Ministry of Antiquities.
