GEM to reveal King Tut's tunic

CAIRO – 11 March 2018: The Restoration center at the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) is close to put an end for the restoration process of the tunic discovered in King Tutankhamun's tomb back in 1922, however, the item of clothing was never shown to the public before.
The director of the restoration section at GEM Osama Abu El Kheir said that the tunic was found inside the golden king's tomb. The piece of clothing was in a poor condition, as researchers then could not completely restore it to be shown to the public, added Abu El Kheir.
Abu El Kheir added that the researchers working on the tunic's restoration found out that it does not belong to king Tut, it could have been owned by his father or brother and somehow found its way to king Tut's belongings.
"The tunic will cast light on the Textile industry in ancient Egypt, as the pieces of the shabby clothing are being collected to determine the length and color of the historic item of clothing.", added Abu El Kheir.
Abu El Kheir said that the discoverer of the golden king's tomb, Howard Carter, advised the Egyptians in his memoir to study the tunic in order to know more about the history of textile in ancient Egypt.
