The Arts of Royalty in Sasanian Iran

This lecture explores concepts of kingship and their visual expression

in the arts: Kingship in ancient Iran has a long history that drew

from the royal arts of Assyria to express empire. Achaemenid kings

in succession developed these conceptual representations brilliantly,

contributing to visual expressions of kingship in Sasanian Iran, which in turn

influenced later expressions of piety and power in the Islamic world and beyond.
