Object of the Week at The Egyptian Museum
Made of limestone, the statue has always been displayed at hall 12 on the ground floor of the museum but was moved to the entrance hall for one week to give it more focus.
Sabah Abdel Razeq, director general of the Egyptian Museum, said the statue is of a couple sitting in front of a table of offerings. Hieroglyphic writings on the back of the statue tell of offerings made to deities Osiris and Ra–Horakhty, she said.
The statue was discovered during excavations by the Egyptian antiquities authority in the Upper Egyptian city of Abydos, Abdel Razeq added.
