New seminar on utilizing geophysics in antiquity sites

CAIRO 9 July 2017: A new seminar to be held on July 11, at Sultan Al-Ghuri Complex in Darb Al-Ahmar , on exploring the effect of using geophysics in antiquity sites in efforts to save the threatened Egyptian archeological sites.
Organized by the Department of Cultural Development and Archeology of the General Administration of Antiquities of Cairo and Giza, the seminar is held in cooperation with Director General of the Scientific Office (Islamic and Coptic Sites) at Ministry of Antiquities Mohamed Soliman.
The seminar will be led by Professor Abbas Zaghloul who will discuss sensing techniques used to run and protect these sites. The seminar will also feature Mamdouh El-Sayed Abdeen, professor and participant in the Division of Geological Applications and Mineral Resources, according to a released statement by the Ministry of Antiquities.
Abdeen is expected to speak about the role of geology in Egyptian antiquities. Another lecture will also be held by Professor Attia Bakheet a board member in the National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences, will speak about documenting antiquities by using laser.
