Under the auspices of Minister of Antiquities Khaled El-Enany, the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) will hold on Saturday the third annual conference on King Tutankhamun.

The opening ceremony will be held at the Ahmed Pasha Kamal Hall at the Ministry of Antiquities headquarters in Cairo's Zamalek neighbourhood.

Tarek Tawfik, supervisor-general of the GEM, said that the conference would last for three days and will see a discussion on several archaeological topics, including Tutankhamun's furniture and human remains and the ideal methods of preserving them.

These topics will be the focus of a number of scientific lectures and speeches by international and Egyptian scholars, curators and archaeologists attending the conference, as well as top officials from the Ministry of Antiquities.

Tawfik told Ahram Online that the first day of the conference will involve an evening guided tour of the halls of kings Akhenaten and Tutankhamun at the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir. The English-language tour will be guided by French scholar Marc Gabolde and director of the Hanover Museum in Germany Chirstian Loeben.

Tawfik will deliver a 20-minute speech on the new objects from Tutankhamun's tomb, with a reception to follow.
