 Dispute on putting Building in Muizz Street on list of archaeological sites

For the second time, the Egyptian Permanent Committee of Islamic and Christian Antiquities has rejected to list building #88 in the archeological the Islamic Cairo's Muizz Street as an archeological object, saying that building is not fit to be listed as a historical monument.

The refusal made up a difference between the Committee and the Sector of Islamic and Christian Antiquities in the Ministry of Antiquities, which insisted that the building should be listed as an archeological object, Youm7 reported Friday.

The building was established in the Fatimid Caliphate and locates on 1,250 square meters in the UNESCO-listed Muizz Street listed in the UNESCO World Heritage Centre.

 

Egypt seeks to put Minya's Amarna site on UNESCO World List

Egyptian Minister of Antiquities Khaled al-Anani inspected Saturday the archeological area of Amarna in Upper Egypt's Minya governorate amid the Ministry's efforts to list the area in the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World archeological sites, Youm7 reported.

Egyptians celebrated Saturday 64th anniversary of the Egyptian Revolution of 1952, when the first two late Presidents of Egypt Mohamed Naguib and Gamal Abdel-Nasser led a military group that ousted King Farouk and announced Egypt has turned from the kingdom into a republic.

The Greater Cairo Library in Zamalek organized Saturday a photo exhibition titled "Suez Canal Between The Past and The Present" at 6:00 p.m, Youm7 reported; the exhibition coincide with the celebration of the 64th anniversary of the 1952 Revolution.
