Cairo, Egypt -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/12/2015 -- Independent filmmaker Hany Yousry and his team have launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise $50,000 to create their documentary film, In Time Of Flood. The documentary film is about the world's most ancient culture. The funding campaign has been launched on the Indiegogo platform.
The film is about Nubia. Yousry plans to have the film spoken in Nubia's ancient native language, which is fast disappearing.
"The Nubians are ancient people that go as far back as history," Yousry said. "They built a flourishing civilization along the Nile, and we want to tell their story through In Time of Flood."
Located along the Nile in what's now southern Egypt and Northern Sudan, the Nubian homeland flourished for tens of thousands of years. The 25th dynasty of Egypt was Nubian, and one of the oldest calendars ever found, more than 8,000 years old, was found in the Nubian Desert.
In 1964 the land of Nubia was disappeared under lake Nasser after the Aswan High Dam was built. Thousands of people were displaced, and ancient sites, including temples, were flooded, leaving no trace of this once thriving culture.
"Those who are old enough to have lived in old Nubia remember it with painful nostalgia and carry bitter memories of the day they had to desert their homes and watch them sink beneath the rising waters," Yousry said.
The film seeks to tell the story of the Nubian people in their own language before it's too late. The lack of funding, harsh filming conditions and sometimes complicated logistics are a challenge, Yousry said, but that is why he and his team are seeking the public's support.
"We can't do it without people's support," he said, "but we know we can share this story with the world if enough people help."
To encourage support and thank donors, the campaign has lined up 10 different levels of perks, ranging from being thanked on the film's site for a $10 donation and a digital download of the film for a $25 donation, to credit at the end of the film and traditional Nubian handicrafts for a $250 donation and Associate Producer credit with seven-day stay in Nubia and a Nile cruise for a $10,000 donation.
British music composer James Seymour Brett and Ondrej Herold the Director of Photography with the skills of Film Director Hany Yousry make this film something very special.
The campaign runs through the end of November. More information is available at
