CAIRO:For security procedures, the Egyptian Tourism Police have
stopped safaris and camping in El-Wahat el-Bahariya (Bahariya Oasis)
where accidentally 10 people including eight Mexican nationals were
killed by Egyptian military in September.
Safaris and camping were prohibited in the areas near Bahariya Oasis since Thursday for further notice due to “security measures,” Antiquities and Tourism Police General Director Ahmed Mostafa Shahin stated.
The areas include western and southern parts of Oases-Siwa and Oases roads, except for the area of White Desert in Farafra, the statement continued.
in mid September, the Egyptian Interior Ministry stated that Egyptian security forces had killed 12 people (eight Mexicans and four Egyptians) and wounded another 10 (six Mexicans and four Egyptians) “by accident” when they mistook a convoy of mainly Mexican tourists for a militant group in the Oasis.
