All archaeological sites in Egypt will be free of charge on Thursday to celebrate Archaeologists' Day
To celebrate Egypt’s tenth annual Archaeologists' Day, the Ministry of Antiquities will make all archeological sites in Egypt free on Thursday for Egyptians and foreign residents.
Minister of Antiquities Mamdouh El-Damaty explained to Ahram Online that the decision was made to encourage people to visit more museums and archeological sites in order to raise awareness on heritage issues, and also to celebrate the work of archeologists in preserving a heritage which does not only to Egypt but to the whole world.
Egypt began celebrating the day in 2007, selecting 14 January because it falls on the date in which Egyptian archaeologists took over the management of the country's antiquities from the French in the 1950's.
