The Lumiere Brothers were French inventors who are credited with being some of the earliest pioneers of film. They invented an early version of the motion-picture camera and the projector, which they dubbed the "Cinématographe."
Auguste Lumière and Louis Lumière were the sons of a photographer, and found themselves inspired to pursue the art of moving images after finding themselves fascinated by the Kinetoscope, invented by Thomas Edison. They developed their "Cinematographe" device in February 1895 which could project and shoot moving images to wider audiences.
They had thus invented cinema.
The Panorama of the European Film Festival commenced on November 8 and will run until November 18.

In 1897, Alexandre Promio, working for the Lumiere Bros film company, began filming several short films showing life in Egypt, which would be the first ever time Egypt was recorded on film. This footage will screen at the PEFF. That has been made possible thanks to the cooperation of the Institut Lumiere.The Panorama of the European Film Festival commenced on November 8 and will run until November 18.
