CAIRO - 11 June 2017: Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) displayed various artworks by artists Jack Jonathan and Chalotta Sparre in a recently held exhibition titled 'The Inhabitants' that runs between June 8-24.

Hosted by Art Exhibitions and Collection Department within BA, the exhibition grants free-entry to the public except on weekends according to the organizer's official Facebook page.

Born and raised in Egypt, Jonathan developed interest in photography after World War II, when he accompanied and learned techniques from famous photographer David Douglas Duncan. Before he left Egypt, he created a special photography exhibition titled 'The Visions of Egypt' featuring Egyptians in untraditional forms.

The exhibition has been held at the Fulbright Foundation in 1952 and has managed to earn recognition and was praised among critics and audiences.

'The Visions of Egypt' managed to portray the trait of tolerance that is found among Egyptians who embrace their present and hope for a better future; Jonathan emphasized his idea of Egyptians 50 years ago that revolved around strength and peace.

Sparre is another artist that will have her work displayed in the exhibition. Ambassadors of Sweden to Egypt, the artist portrays her passion to the MENA region through her photography. She dedicated her efforts to displaying political history, social issues, and development challenges in Egypt, Libya, and Syria.

Art Exhibitions and Collection Department is known for holding high profile international contemporary arts resonating from various backgrounds as well as hosting international artists and performances along with contemporary art.

The department has previously held events such as BA International Biennale for Miniature Graphics, Resident Artist Project in 2011, 'Agenda' Exhibition, and the Alexandria International Symposium in Natural Materials among other, according to their official Facebook page.
