Egypt launches website to promote ailing tourism sector

Egypt's Tourism Minister Yehia Rashed will launch the first phase of a multilingual website aims to promote the country's tourism sector, which has been struggling since the 2011 uprising, Youm7 reported.

"The new website will be created in 14 languages covering Egypt's most important tourism markets and will dispel negative impression of tourism in Egypt," Rashid was quoted by Youm7.

Egypt has been striving to overcome the negative effects of the recent crash of a Russian jetliner over the Sinai Peninsula, which killed all 224 people on board, leading to the banning of flights to Sharm al-Sheikh by Russia, Turkey and U.K.

 

Online vote kicks off to select the Egyptian Museum's "piece of the month"

The Ministry of Antiquities has posted on its Facebook page photos of 13 ancient Egyptian artifacts from the collection of the Egyptian Museum to select the "Piece of the Month" for August.

In July, the ministry began a new trend to share with the community the selection of the Egyptian Museum's Piece of the Month through Voting on a group of artifacts carefully chosen from the museum in an attempt to raise people's archaeological awareness and to share in the ministry's decision making.

Elham Salah, Head of Museums Sector said that the selected pieces of this month are 13 artifacts from different ancient Egyptian eras.  They include Ra-Hotep and Nofert double statue and wall reliefs decorated with hunting scenes as well as a collection of cosmetic pots.

 

Mazaher troupe to perform at Makan on Wednesday

Mazaher troupe, known for presenting shows of the Egyptian "Zar"; a traditional exorcism ritual to get rid of evil spirits, will perform at the cultural music center in downtown Cairo at 08:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Mazaher is an ensemble in which three women play a leading role.

Tickets are sold at 30 EGP.

 

Antiquities ministry to issue annual publications on archaeology and conservation

The publication department at the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities Scientific Publication Departmen will issue two new peer-reviewed journals about archaeology and conservation in January and July every year, the ministry said in a statement Monday.

The first publication named, "Archaeology in Egypt", will feature all archaeological sites and foreign mission currently excavating fieldwork of all archaeological expeditions working in Egypt from all periods.

The second, "Conservation in Egypt", will focus on conservation techniques and all conservation and restoration works carried out throughout the country, according to the statement.
