The Egyptian Museum in Tahrir awarded the grant of the United States Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP).

The AFCP grant was awarded to the Egyptian Museum -- whose application was submitted in December 2015 by the museum's then-secretary general Khaled El-Enany -- following a worldwide competition, Sabah Abdel Razek, first secretary of the Egyptian Museum, told Ahram Online.

She explains that the grant provides $130,000 to help in research and assessment of the current condition, and conservation and presevation of the Museum's collection of wooden coffins. The coffins are currently stored in the museum's basement and third floor galleries

The AFCP supports the preservation of cultural sites, cultural objects, and forms of traditional cultural expression in more than 100 developing countries around the world.

AFCP-supported projects include the restoration of ancient and historic buildings, assessment and conservation of rare manuscripts and museum collections, preservation and protection of important archaeological sites, and the documentation of vanishing traditional craft techniques and indigenous languages.
