Antiquities Ministry to allow photography at Egyptian Museum for $6
CAIRO: Photography at the Egyptian Museum is now permitted for a 50 EGP ($6) ticket, the Antiquities Ministry announced in a statement Saturday.
“The free photography policy, which was active in December, was a Christmas present. However, a 50-EGP ticket is now available for Egyptians and foreigners for no-flash photography,” General Supervisor of the Egyptian Museum Khaled el Anany said.
Fees for commercial photography and documentary movies will be subject to the Ministry’s regulations, said Anany.
On Dec. 4, Antiquities Minister Mamdouh al Damaty announced photography at the museum was free of charge till Jan.7 in a bid to promote for the tourism industry that has been suffering since the 2011 uprising.
Photography at all museums of Egypt was banned in 1996 for several reasons including that taking photos creates congestion at the then packed museum in addition to the damage caused to the paintings.
