Those driving by the Contemporary Arts Center on Halloween eve would have been struck by the sight of people adorned in gold lame, thick eyeliner and pharaoh-esque headwear streaming into the building. The costuming was part of Halloween New Orleans XXXII, a four-day event that raises money for Project Lazarus. The previous day's event included the black-tie Lazarus Ball and the GLO Neon DJ party. But, as any regular attendee knows, it is the Saturday night costume contest, this year on Halloween, where months of planning culminate with a costume contest. This year's party theme focused on ancient Egypt, "Fall of the Pharaohs."
As usual, competition was fierce, and all costumes, even those that weren't quite on theme, rivaled those seen in other parts of the city. Winners included: Best Costume Overall: Seven Deadly Sins; Best Group: Straight Outta Cairo; Best Individual: Bad Day Golfing; Hot Mess: Cowboy and Indian; Best On Stage Performance: Fall of the Farahs; and Audience Award: Rockford Peaches.
