Minister of Antiquities Khaled el Anany and French Ambassador to Egypt Andre Parant attended on Sunday 15/5/2016 the signing ceremony of a cooperation agreement between the Museum of Islamic Art and the Louvre Museum.

The deal was inked by Supervisor of the Museum of Islamic Art Ahmed el Shoki and Director of the French Louvre Jean Luc Martinez.

This comes as part of the Antiquities Ministry's plan to reopen the Museum of Islamic Art during the coming period after finalizing its renovation works.

The Museum of Islamic Art was subjected to severe destruction and damage in 2014 after a car bomb exploded outside the adjacent Cairo Security Directorate.

The blast of the bomb destroyed the façade of the museum and the nearby Egyptian National Library and Archives building.
