Bike like an Egyptian in the 2015 Cross Egypt Challenge!

Image 3 of 11:  This year, Cross Egypt Challenge kicks off its fifth edition with a new rally route for 2015. It starts in Alexandria, the Mediterranean's largest coastal city, then passes through Cairo, for a run through Egypt’s capital - and an incredible loop ‘round the Great Pyramids.

Halloween is weeks away, but here’s a simple costume idea that's wrapped in adventure, travel and extreme sport. Grab some leather boots and a 'brain bucket' and dress up as a biker! Next add a motorcycle or scooter and you’re all set for the 2015 Cross Egypt Challenge. The fifth edition of this cross-country tour starts on October 23rd and ends nine days later on Halloween. Do you dare?

Cross Egypt Challenge is the only organized endurance cross-country rally in the Middle East and North Africa. Each year, it features a new route through Egypt's most famous antiquities and attractions, stretching the limits of traditional motorbike tours as it threads through spectacularly varied desert terrain - it's a blank canvas for motorcycle madness.

The series started in 2011 in an effort to promote tourism. Each year, the route is revised and extended. The first rally covered a total distance exceeding 1,700 km.  This year riders will tackle a 2,725 km tour packed with tricks and treats as the route passes through Egypt's largest cities, coastal resorts, historical sites, deserts and the lush Nile Valley.

“It is quite challenging to ride few thousands kilometers on motorcycles and scooters in a challenging cross-country rally, especially if that involves different terrains,” Ahmad Elzoghby, official spokesperson of the challenge, said in a press release, “Cross Egypt Challenge is meant to bring global media attention to Egypt and to confidently announce that Egypt is safe for tourism.”

Got your interest? Riders who are up to the challenge can find guidelines for participation on the event website. Registration closes on September 10.
