Last Week to Register for Kara Cooney & Good Kings this Thursday

This is the last week to register for our second webinar of the season this Thursday, September 15 at 6:00pm EDT, "The Good Kings: The Modern Obsession with Ancient Egyptian Kingship," featuring Prof. Kara Cooney.  Egyptologist and best-selling author Kara Cooney examines our modern obsession with ancient Egyptian kingship and especially figures like Tutankhamun, the perennial star of international blockbuster exhibitions. Join Dr. Cooney as she delves into the stories behind some of the most powerful men in all of ancient history, including Tutankhamun, Khufu, Senwosret III, Akenhaten, Ramses II, and Taharqa, to uncover the lessons their kingships can teach us today. The webinar will conclude with a live Q&A session moderated by fellow Egyptologist, Prof. Sarah Parcak.

All proceeds will help ASOR continue to fund membership scholarships and online resources. This webinar will be recorded.

Register for our upcoming webinar on Thursday, September 29 at 6:00pm EDT, "Life and Death along the Nile: Insights from the Bioarchaeology of Nubia Expedition," featuring Prof. Brenda Baker.  The Bioarchaeology of Nubia Expedition (BONE) project area encompasses nearly 100 square meters on the north bank of the Nile River between the fourth and fifth cataracts in northern Sudan. More than 200 sites, including cemeteries, from the Earlier (more than 250,000 years ago) Stone Age through the Christian period (c. 550-1400 CE) have been documented. Join Dr. Baker as she examines the individuals buried in these cemeteries to reveal little known aspects of the lived experiences of the past people who inhabited this area of ancient Sudan. Please be aware that images of human remains will be shown during this lecture. The webinar will conclude with a live Q&A session moderated by Prof. Geoff Emberling.

All proceeds will help ASOR continue to fund membership scholarships and online resources. This webinar will be recorded.

Register for our upcoming webinar on Thursday, October 27 at 6:00pm EDT, "Representations of the Bible and the Ancient Near East in Film: From Griffith to Grindhouse," featuring Prof. Kevin McGeough.  The Bible and the Ancient Near East have been a subject of movies from the earliest days of film to the present. Stories of Cleopatra, Samson, Moses, and Jesus were compelling for audiences and the challenges of recreating the ancient world in a realistic fashion left viewers awestruck. These films wax and wane in popularity, so join Prof. McGeough as he explains why this has been the case and discusses how different genres of film impact how the ancient world is treated in the modern era. The webinar will conclude with a live Q&A session moderated by ANE Today Editor, Alex Joffe.

All proceeds will help ASOR continue to fund membership scholarships and online resources. This webinar will be recorded.
