In Video: Egypt recovers 114 ancient artefacts smuggled into France
Egypt's prosecutor-general expressed his appreciation for the cooperation between the Egyptian prosecution and French judicial authorities in retrieving the artefacts
Egypt's Prosecutor-General Hamda El-Sawy received on Wednesday in Paris 114 Egyptian artefacts that had been smuggled into France.
According to the office of the prosecutor-general, the Egyptian prosecution's investigations, in cooperation with French judicial authorities, succeeded in stopping all attempts to put the artefacts up for auction.
The secretary-general of the Supreme Council of antiquities Mostafa El-Waziry accompanied the prosecution's delegation, which was led by El-Sawy.
In an event held at the Egyptian embassy in Paris on the occasion, El-Waziry gave a presentation explaining the importance of the 114 artefacts, which date to different eras of the ancient Egyptian civilisation.
From his side, El-Sawy expressed his appreciation for the cooperation between the Egyptian prosecution and French judicial authorities, adding that it is necessary to continue cooperation in the field of counter-antiquities theft.
Egypt's Ambassador to France Alaa Youssef highlighted the extent to which relations between the two countries have been strengthened over recent years, and the constructive cooperation and continuous coordination between the judicial authorities in the two countries over the past two years, which played a major role in the recovery of these artefacts.
