The most flamboyant rooms for rent in Wales

The old Mirador Boutique Hotel offers students a chance to sleep in six themed rooms including Africa and Egypt

The locally famous Mirador Boutique Hotel has found a new life, for now at least, as probably the wildest student digs in Wales.

The terraced house in Uplands, Swansea can offer new occupants a taste of globe-trotting without ever leaving the city, via six amazing themed rooms.

Students can contemplate ancient architecture in the Roman suite, French linguistics in the french chateau room and go back in time to study archaeology in the Egypt room.

Ashley Walters, the letting agent from StudentDigz who has been showing slightly bewildered students around the house says: "Each room is flamboyant! There really is nothing like it in the city for students, it's unique and this is a definite draw for students.

"Their common reaction is 'WOW!' and then they try and claim their favourite room, they all have a particular room that they want.

"All rooms come with a seating area too, so somewhere to relax in private when they want time away from their housemates.

"At the moment, the Roman and the Egyptian are the most popular rooms. I personally like the French room, as it has its own private sun deck area at the back."

Swansea's Mirador Boutique Hotel is now a student house

So, grab your passport, we're going on a round the world trip room by room…

Roman emperor

Back to togas and gladiators in this classic roman inspired double room on the ground floor.

Painted wall art depicting life in roman times will transport this student tenant to a sunny Italian palace terrace, featuring stone arches and columns, even in the ensuite shower-room.

The walls have been painted with a stippling effect to give the appearance of stone, and there are even strategically placed flowers and tendrils of ivy to hint at a fragrant and sunny roman garden, rather than a wet Wednesday in Uplands.

The bed is a vision of gold and white, with four striking posts and intricate headboard design - definitely the room for a roman emperor rather than a lowly peasant.

Back to the orient

(Image: The Mirador Boutique Hotel)

This room is definitely for the student who adores the orient, with blood red walls, oriental designed soft furnishings and even a full wall mural featuring a lady in full traditional Chinese dress.

The furniture again reflects the interior design of the room, with black and gold being the predominant colour combination, and many pieces displaying designs paying homage to the Far East.

There's even a huge oriental fan on the wall. It's not hard to see that many students will be a fan of this quirky room, with an en-suite and seating area making up the complete Chinese picture.

On safari

(Image: The Mirador Boutique Hotel)

For any student who has watched an episode of a David Attenborough nature programme and longed to be on safari in Africa rather than studying in Swansea, there is a room in this unique property that has its very own leopard on the wall; and the bed, and the chair, and the wall.

Yes, the African room is a safari adventure without the worry of being attacked by a big cat.

Any student answering the call of the wild and choosing this room will be pleased there is an en-suite, so no having to 'rough it' in the wilderness.

Perfect Paris

(Image: The Mirador Boutique Hotel)

For a more peaceful existence, away from the wild safari experience, one student will be returning to the chateau.

The parisian room is a flavour of France, with elegant interior design mixing muted, pale colours with classic chateau style furniture.

The padded and ornate bed takes centre stage in this ensuite room, but this is not necessarily the star of this French story.

Through a set of double doors, there is a private decked terrace waiting for a stressed student to escape the studying and enjoy the sunshine.

Not for mummy

(Image: The Mirador Boutique Hotel)

If one of the group of students renting this house is a bit of a diva, then this is the perfect room for them to channel their inner Egyptian emperor or empress, as they will be surrounded by their own servants on the very detailed Egyptian wall art that's even on the bedding.

There is even a sarcophagus either side of the bed; really hoping they are empty as no student will want to be the subject of 'the curse of the mummy'.

Little wonder that this room appears to be the favourite with potential tenants, as it's packed with Egyptian themed artwork, soft furnishings and furniture.

The stand-out piece is surely the coffee table, with a metallic Egyptian Pharaoh kneeling whilst presenting a Pot Noodle or Domino's pizza to their student master.

Relax on the Med

(Image: The Mirador Boutique Hotel)

The sixth and final ensuite bedroom is a trip to the relaxing Mediterranean. With a vast wall mural depicting a pretty, sun drenched garden with a sea view which will gently lull the occupant to sleep. It might be a challenge to remember that the nearest beach here is Swansea Bay, not Saint-Tropez.

The property also offers the group of tenants a large communal area that was the hotel residents' dining room, plus a large kitchen with breakfast table.

According to the lettings agency, the house is well-placed for the university, shops and local facilities.

So if you know a student who is desperate to travel but the student loan won't stretch that far, maybe they and five friends could be chosen as the new residents of The Mirador Boutique Hotel. Just remind them to send you a postcard.

Talk to StudentDigz about this unique opporunity, which will cost £3,900 per calendar month split between the six tenants, on 01792 600227.
