Best Egyptian Collection in Latin America Revealed in Cuba

Havana, Feb 3 (Prensa Latina) The details of the most important Egyptian collection in Latin America are compiled in a single volume, presented at the Universal Art Building of the Cuban National Museum of Fine Arts (MNBA).

The catalog - unveiled yesterday as the result of more than a year of work of the Egyptian Art curator of MNBA, Aymée Chicuri and Egyptologists Milagros Álvarez and Irene Morfini of Spain, and Italy, respectively - collects all the pieces, including the latest discoveries of the valuable collection.

The catalog will project beyond the Antilles limits the particularities of the inventory initiated by Dr. Joaquín Gumá Herrera, Count of Lagunillas (1909-1980), Chicuri told Prensa Latina.

'One interesting thing about this collection is that it has a large enough number of pieces to cover everything that is the history of Egypt, from prehistory to the Greco-Roman period,' Canarian Egyptologist Milagros Álvarez who is part of the Canarian- Tuscany with Irene Morfini, explained.

In this way, the three authors decided to do something different in this book by including historical introductions to each of these periods, so that, in addition to being scientific, the volume also acquires informative nuances that can serve students, mainly Cubans, who are interested in Egyptology.

The rooms dedicated to Egyptian art currently exhibit more than a hundred pieces under a thematic criterion that offers domestic and foreign visitors different aspects of life and death in Pharaonic Egypt.
