Petrie Museum Update

Petrie Museum Update:

Dear Friends

SUMMER LECTURES
It's your last chance to book for Eric Cline's lectures on Saturday 6th June 2-5 and to get a signed copy of his prize-winning book. I can't recommend this too highly as Eric very rarely lectures in this country.
Check the website for the booking form.

SAD NEWS
One of our most loyal 'regulars', Allan Boley, died recently. If you've ever admired our Egypt-themed prize-draw boxes - most of them came from him. He was a loyal friend, and Friend, and will be much missed. If you would like to attend the funeral it will be on Tuesday 2nd June, 11.40am, at South West Middlesex Crematorium. See you there.

CENTENARY BOOK
We're delighted that the Petrie Museum centenary souvenir book has now appeared, AND it's free for download or a very modest £10 to buy, sponsored by the Friends of the Petrie Museum - that's YOU.

The Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology: Characters and Collections edited by Alice Stevenson, and with contributions from many people associated with the museum.
"The Friends of the Petrie Museum have sponsored the production of this celebration of the Petrie Museum’s centenary as a public collection so that, at a very affordable £10, more people will learn about the museum’s extraordinary collection and discover the characters who devoted their lives to founding the collection and to ensuring that it remains with us today.
Richly illustrated and engagingly written, the book moves back and forth between recent history and the ancient past, between objects and people, to illustrate the living, breathing nature of the Museum, and the discoveries that are made about its collections up to this day. Investigating the Museum’s most important and eye-catching pieces, from the Koptos lions to Roman era panel portraits, experts bring to light the discovery, history and care of these objects. The rich and varied history of the collection is revealed by the secrets that sit on its shelves, and by the contributors whose passion for the museum is clearly demonstrated.
The book will be launched at the Petrie Museum on the 11th June and will be for sale on the day, and after in Waterstone’s, Torrington Place, or in the Museum and the UCL shop."
