Fwd: [EEF] Masters in Egyptology at Indiana University

-------Forwarded Message--------

From: Vinson, Stephen <vinsons@indiana.edu>

Dear list members -- At this time of the year, many of you will
be getting inquiries from students who would like to start a
Ph.D. program in Egyptology.  If you hear from students who you
think are promising, but who don't currently have the background
to start a Ph.D. program, I'd like to encourage you to suggest
the Indiana University MA program to them. There are not that
many terminal MA programs in Egyptology in North America, and
we have tried here to create a unique program. Our strength is
that we offer substantially more language instruction at the
MA level than peer programs do -- we require six semesters,
including three semesters of Middle Egyptian (with an introduction
to Old and Middle-Kingdom  hieratic in the third semester),
two semesters of Demotic, and a semester of Late Egyptian
(with an introduction to New Kingdom hieratic). We also
have an arrangement with Pearce Paul Creasman to send students
to Egypt with the University of Arizona archaeological field
school. IU also has a strong program in virtual heritage in
the School of Informatics and Computer Science, and so far
most of our Egyptology students have taken elective courses
in the digital reconstruction of archaeological objects and
sites. Please feel free to share my contact information with
any student, or to be in touch with me yourselves with any
questions.

Thanks, and best wishes,

Steve Vinson
