In celebration of NY Archives Week, the Brooklyn Museum Archives calls out some important moments in our institutional history.
The
Wilbour Library of Egyptology, one of the world’s most important
resources for the study of ancient Egypt, opened in 1934. Today this
Library, along with the resources in the Museum Archives, provides in
depth information about all aspects of Ancient Egypt. This library
originally belonged to Charles Edwin Wilbour, one of America’s first
Egyptologists. Wilbour also acquired an antiquities collection that is
now part of the Brooklyn Museum’s famed Egyptian collection. The Wilbour Archival collection documents Wilbour’s travels throughout Egypt and beyond.
