Exhibition at Sonoma Valley Museum of Art

The Sonoma Valley Museum of Art exhibits more than 25 tapestries woven by artists at the Ramses Wissa Wassef Art Centre in Giza, Egypt. The tapestries in "An Accomplishment in Creativity: The Egyptian Children's Tapestries" were collected by David Williams in 1970s & 80s and comprise the largest exhibition of Wissa Wassef artworks in the USA since the Smithsonian traveling exhibit in 1974. The exhibit includes work from masters such as Fawzi Mohamed, Karima Ali, Garya Mahmoud, Faika Nicolas and Ali Seleim.

An Accomplishment in Creativity: The Egyptian Children's Tapestries
Prior to formal schooling, children between the ages of 5 and 10 in the small Coptic Christian village of Harrania, located at the foot of the Giza Pyramids, were selected to weave images created entirely in their mind’s eye. The joys of childhood fantasy came to life on their looms. The Egyptian Village, which up to 30 years ago had not known changes for 2000 years and had no source of income but farming, now prospers. Its tapestry artists are internationally famous and their work is prized throughout the world.
