Giza allows free use of slaughterhouses, Cairo bans slaughtering in streets
CAIRO: Government-owned automated slaughterhouses in Giza will provide their services to citizens for free during Eid al-Adha to reduce slaughtering on streets, according to a Tuesday statement by the Giza Veterinary Directorate.
Meanwhile, Cairo Governor Galal al-Saeed imposed a minimum fine of 5,000 EGP on those who slaughter animals during the feast. He also allocated vehicles to roam streets during Eid al-Adha to collect and clean remains of slaughtering.
In Egypt, Muslims usually sacrifice sheep, but also cows and camels. Some slaughter the animals outside their homes and soon begin to distribute the meat amongst the poor.
Muslims worldwide celebrate the Eid al-Adha after pilgrims descend from Mount Arafat in Mecca, commemorating Prophet Abraham’s obedience to God though his willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail, according to the Muslim faith.
Some of the meat of the sacrificed animal is donated to the poor, and some is used in meals gathering family members.
